New York Giants

New York Giants are Wasting Special Talents of Odell Beckham Jr

With all the respect in the world to Adam Thielen, Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, Michael Thomas and the other wide receivers across the NFL having terrific seasons, the guy at this position that looks better on tape than any other is Odell Beckham. Statistically, Beckham isn’t having a poor year by anyone’s standards, but his tape evaluation is far greater than his stat line of 61 receptions on 91 targets for 785 yards, but only two touchdowns.

MNF Preview – Saquon Barkley, OBJ Hot Fantasy Starts

New York Giants at Atlanta

Spread: Falcons-4

When New York Has The Ball:

Only one team is allowing more than the 32 points per game that Atlanta is hemorrhaging. Saquon Barkley is an extremely special and unique talent, but nonetheless, the Giants running game is very inconsistent and unreliable. However, the Falcons allow an inordinate amount of receptions to running backs and Eli Manning has become too reliant on dumping the ball off to Barkley.

What Teams are Favorites to Land Oregon QB Justin Herbert

OK, it’s just the middle of October and there is plenty of NFL to be played this season.

Yet, because this is an ever-trending forward league, it’s always relevant to look toward the future and it appears were will have another intriguing offseason.

The 2019 draft appears to be loaded. There are several unit-changing defensive players available. However, this has always and will always be a quarterback-driven league. Quarterbacks especially rule in the draft.

While defenders like Nick Bosa and Ed Oliver will have plenty of draft house, there appears to be one name to keep the closest eye on – Justin Hebert of Oregon. Yes, the quarterback.

Scouts are talking Herbert up as a special talent and better than all of the high picked quarterbacks of recent years. If that’s the case, there will be plenty of teams jockeying to get him beginning prior to the February combine, which is not too far away.

So, let’s look at some of the early contenders for Herbert, presented in alphabetical order:

Denver: This may be one of the favorites. The Broncos are 2-4 and probably headed for another top-five pick. Herbert has been compared to John Elway. I’m sure Elway would like to get someone like him on his team. Case Keenum isn’t working out and he has a short contract. I can see Elway trying everything he can do to get a new quarterback.

Jacksonville: A longshot because the Jaguars would have to trade a lot to get this done. But the Jaguars are pretty set other than at quarterback. It would be worth it.

L.A. Chargers: Another longshot. Philip Rivers will turn 37 in December. But he is still playing at a high level. But Chargers could try to spend big and get some excitement going for the future in the new stadium. They are going to be roommate, the Rams’ caddie. They need to build some excitement in L.A.

Miami: Another longshot. But if the Dolphins decide Ryan Tannehill isn‘t the guy, they could make a bold move.

New England: Tom Brady isn’t going to be there forever, right? At some point, Bill Belichick is going to make a big move.

New York Giants: Another favorite. The Giants could get the No. 1 pick. They would have to take Herbert, right? Eli Manning is done. The Giants could be in good shape for the future with Herbert, Saquon Barkley and OBJ.

Oakland: They have Derek Carr, right? Well, with Jon Gruden running the show that might not matter. If the Raiders get the No. 1 pick and Chucky, a sucker for quarterbacks, falls for Herbert, Gruden will trade Carr and take Herbert.

San Francisco: The 49ers love Jimmy Garoppolo. But his injury could cause the 49ers to get the No.1 pick. If Kyle Shanahan decides he loves Herbert more than Jimmy G., he could get a huge return for the veteran. Just something to think about.

New York Giants Should Trade for Jacoby Brissett

The Trade To Make:

Giants Send 2019 2nd Round Pick to Colts For Jacoby Brissett

Now this is a move that has not been rumored or speculated, but the Giants absolutely should be on the phone with the Colts about Brissett. New York can’t move next year’s first rounder, because it is too valuable. But the Colts should be very interested in that second rounder that very well could end up being a top 35 pick overall. Andrew Luck is certainly rounding back into shape and Indianapolis needs as many future picks they can get. Maybe even a lesser offer pries Brissett out of Indianapolis.

Brissett has learned his craft from Tom Brady and now Andrew Luck and absolutely has starting traits. He faired well last year in Indianapolis with Luck out of the lineup, but fizzled out as the season went along with very little help around him. Brissett’s situation was so bad last year that he rarely had the opportunity to drive the ball down the field, one of his best skills. Brissett’s touch and ball placement are also vastly underrated. Brissett values the football without sacrificing the ability to make big plays and take chances. His pocket presence needs works, but there is a lot to work with here. Brissett’s contract status would have him under a very cheap contract through the 2019 season, which is plenty of time to analyze him.

He could be the long-term answer in New York. The Giants could acquire Brissett, get him prepared as quickly as possible, insert him into the lineup and evaluate him for the remainder of the 2018 season. If Brissett doesn’t excel, the Giants can still look at a quarterback at the top of next year’s draft. This is the perfect guy for New York to look at adding right now.

Is The Drama With Odell Beckham Jr Just Beginning Or Ending

What is Odell Beckham, Jr. up to?

The New York Giants wide receiver created a stir over the weekend in an interview with ESPN with rapper Lil Wayne was by his side. OBJ questioned first-year Giants’ coach Pat Shurmur’s offense, he criticized quarterback Eli Manning and he refused to say he was happy in New York while expressing an affinity for Los Angeles, his offseason home.

Shurmur was irritated by the mention of Beckham’s comments when addressing the media after Sunday’s, 33-31, last second loss to the Carolina Panthers. Beckham stood by his remarks after the game. He suggested that he had galvanized the Giants, whose record dropped to 1-4. The Giants had their best offensive outing of the season scoring more than 30 points in a game for the first time since December 2015.

The schedule prevents the Beckham drama from becoming a bigger controversy this week than it already is. The Giants are facing the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, who are off to a surprisingly slow start at 2-3, tonight.

Eagles-Giants – Why Carson Wentz Is Winning Fantasy Play

Philadelphia at New York Giants

Spread: Eagles -2.5

When New York Has The Ball:

While the left side of New York’s offensive line is in fine shape, that simply isn’t the case for the other three starting spots. That is a terrible problem to have against Fletcher Cox and this outstanding defensive line. Eli Manning has shown his age this year and that is especially true for his propensity to stay in the pocket and take a hit in order to drive the ball down the field. That just isn’t happening with Manning any more, but he should throw the ball plenty on Thursday Night.
