Clear Schedule Trends Stand Out for Stretch Run

The NFL has always tried to be the league of parity.

Teams with the worst records get the best draft choices. The salary cap forces the best teams to struggle to keep all of their players. It’s not that the league wants 32 8-8 teams, but it does want close competition and the hope that teams in playoff contention as late in December as possible.

That’s not going to be the case this year. Only 13 teams have winning records. Eleven teams are three wins or fewer. You have the haves and the have not, which makes teams’ schedules all that much important.

Making Financial Sense of Le’Veon Bell Decision

Le’Veon Bell is the first franchise player to sit out a full season since Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Dan Williams 20 years ago because he declined to sign his franchise tender with the Pittsburgh Steelers before 4 pm eastern time on Tuesday. By missing this deadline, Bell is ineligible to play for the rest of the 2018 season. Pittsburgh and Bell’s inability to reach an agreement prior to the mid-July deadline for franchise players to sign long term deals was a catalyst for this result.

Bell rejected a five-year deal in the $14 million to $15 million per year range containing a $10 million signing bonus and a $10 roster bonus due shortly after signing according to various reports. Slightly over $33 million of the money was in the first two years. The three year cash flow was $45 million to $47 million.

TNF preview – Expect QB fireworks

Green Bay at Seattle

Spread: Seahawks -2.5

When Green Bay Has The Ball:

Although only two teams call a higher percentage of pass plays, the Packers might start to lean more on the run with the emergence of Aaron Jones as Green Bay’s lead back. Jones will not keep up the gaudy yards per rush numbers, but his touches continue to increase and it is clear that Green Bay needs to feature him more. Meanwhile, Seattle has allowed an awful lot of production on the ground at home and the Seahawks are susceptible to giving up long runs, something Jones excels at creating on his own. We could see quite a few chunk runs from Jones in this contest and possibly a slightly expanded role in the short-passing game.
