NFL Has No Trade Problem — 99 Deals in 2018

Welcome to the new norm for the NFL trade deadline.

Thanks to the league’s 2012 decision to move the deadline back from after Week Six to after Week Eight, the number of trades toward the deadline escalated. There were seven in the final week of the 2017 trading period. There were nine in the final week this year to bring the number of 2018 trades to 99 (including draft trades), six more than in 2017.

Tampa Bay has Big Financial Decision to Make on Jameis Winston

These are very telling words:

“We’re going to start Fitz this week (against the Carolina Panthers). That’s what we feel like we need to do this week to give us our best chance,” said Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter on Monday. Nobody envisioned that Jameis Winston would be a backup midway during his fourth NFL season when Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht selected him first overall in the 2015 NFL draft.

This is How Browns Should Build Around Baker Mayfield

After going 3-36-1 with zero wins on the road, Hue Jackson has been fired by the Browns. It is a little shocking that an organization that is so quick with their firing trigger finger would have actually waited this long on a coach that boasted a .205 winning percentage.

Making matters worse, since taking over before the 2016 season, Jackson’s Browns have the worst points-per-game in the NFL. And Jackson is an offensive minded head coach. The way Jackson handled DeShone Kizer last year was coaching malpractice. Not only did he jerk the rookie quarterback in and out of the lineup, showing little faith in him or conviction as a coach, but Jackson’s scheme with a lot of slow developing isolation routes gave Kizer little chance at success, especially with the Browns’ receivers.

The Browns absolutely should look at one of these bright young offensive coaches with the innovative ideas and college principles that are making young quarterbacks successful. Imagine Baker Mayfield in Kansas City right now or with the Rams.
