Nick Bosa is Another Example of Changing College Star Mindset

Nick Bosa announced on Tuesday he was leaving No. 2 ranked Ohio State to concentrate on recovering from a core-muscle injury and prepare for the 2019 NFL Draft. The junior defensive end was hurt in a September 15 40-28 win against TCU, Ohio State’s third game. Bosa had surgery five days later.

John Bosa, Nick’s dad, indicated that the timetable for recovery was about 12 weeks. The Big Ten Championship Game is on December 1. The College Football Playoff semifinals will be played on December 29. Ohio State is projected to be a participant of both.

The decision shouldn’t be a surprise considering the Bosa family history. The elder Bosa, also a defensive end, was a first-round pick of the Miami Dolphins in 1987. Knee injuries derailed a promising career. He was out of the NFL after three years.

Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa, Nick’s older brother, was the third overall pick in 2016. He had the longest contract dispute for an incoming NFL player since the rookie wage scale was implemented by 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). 31 days of training camp were missed before he signed his rookie contract.

Stepping back into the role of my former profession of sports agent, Bosa is making a smart move.

TNF Preview – Start David Johnson Against Denver

Denver at Arizona

Spread: Broncos -2

When Denver Has The Ball:

Case Keenum has been a detriment since joining the Broncos. He isn’t making many impressive throws while also putting the ball in harm’s way far too regularly. Could we see Chad Kelly in this game? Don’t shocked if we do.

More Brock Osweiler magic – Numbers say Don’t Bet on it

Even though the NFL is doing everything to protect quarterback, football is a physical sport and players will get hurt.

Fortunately, injuries have forced team to go to backup quarterbacks only 12 times. But the injury pace is picking up. Ryan Tannehill of the Miami Dolphins is going to miss his second game with a right shoulder injury. Jeff Allen of the Buffalo Bills will miss at least two weeks with an elbow injury.

One of the surprising stat for backup quarterbacks so far is how well they are doing and how many points they are scoring. Backups are 6-6 and averaging 23.8 points a game. This is in a league in which teams are averaging 24.15 points a game, the fastest scoring start in NFL history.

While starting quarterbacks are expected to sustain the offensive onslaught, don’t expect backups to maintain the early level of scoring and efficiency.

This goes back to the old theory presented by long-time NFL coach Ted Marchibroda. He preached that a good backup quarterback can win three games for a team, but if you start that quarterback six games, he could lose you three.
