NFL Results Yells to Bettors – Take the Over

The NFL wisely came up with rules to protect defenseless receivers from dangerous hits. What the league can’t do this year is protect defenseless defenses.

Defenses have been blindsided by the greatest offensive start in NFL history. Scoring is up 9.5 percent in the first four weeks of the season from 43.9 points a game last year to a staggering 48.1. Touchdown passes are up an unbelievable 21.9 percent, 228 this year compared to 187 after four weeks last year. Offensive touchdowns overall are up 14.3 percent.

Mike Vrabel Showing How He Can Handle Titans Job and Make Them Constant Winner

The Tennessee Titans head coach and quarterback showed me something by earning their third straight win Sunday. Anyone can win when things go their way. Creating a winning hand when dealt a losing one, however, is what makes people special. Mike Vrabel and Marcus Mariota have done just that.

I am not just talking about the three 4th-down conversions on the final 16-play game-winning drive. Much has been made about the guts it takes to go for it on 4th and 2 from the Eagles’ 32 when a field goal would tie the game; however, the Titans demonstrated that moxie from the first drive of the day. This team is showing it might be a good bet to go a long way this season.

Fantasy Talk — Seattle Seahawks, Baltimore Ravens Have Smart Plays on Horizon

Our friend Warren Sharp does excellent work with advanced metrics at SharpFootballStats.com. At that website, Sharp (who does the best work concerning strength of schedule out there) lays out the degree of difficulty that each team faces in terms of their remaining schedule vs. both run and pass defenses.

In these metrics, two offenses appear in the easiest five for both the run and pass: Baltimore and Seattle. It so happens, that according to Sharp, the Ravens face the easiest slate of pass defenses and the Seahawks the easiest slate of run defenses for their final dozen games. Lets examine these two situations for fantasy reasons. Your league mates might not be viewing these situations in the same manner, but that’s why you read Clayton Football.

Why Rams Look Like Best Current Super Bowl Bet at +340

On Thursday Night, against what we all assume is an exceptional Minnesota defense (or is it?), the Rams offense put up their most points of the season in an overwhelmingly impressive fashion. This is the best team in the NFL.

Currently listed at +340 to win the Super Bowl, the Rams seem like a bad value this early in the game with a still young team. But the Rams have been the best team in the NFL in the first quarter of the season, and I think it is sustainable and those relatively low odds are well-earned. Here’s why.
